While invitations aren't often considered one of the big ticket items where weddings are concerned, they can be budget breakers. Part of the reason for this is that there are so many choices where invites are concerned. Those choices can quickly take a chunk out of your pocketbook. Below are a few short tips to consider when you need to cut the costs of your invitations:
1. If the main color of your invitations is white, ivory or a similiar color, matching envelope liners are unnescessary.
2. Black print is always elegant, and always cheaper than colored ink.
3. You really don't need 25 more invitations than you think you need. Five to ten additional invitations is usually sufficient.
4. Inner envelopes are unnecessary. They only add more expense.
5. Blotting paper makes no sense in this day and age. It's original purpose was to cover the invitation while the ink dried.
6. Your invitations don't have to match your wedding colors. None of your guests will notice if they do or not.
7. Your thank you cards don't have to match your invitations. Once again, nobody will notice if they do.
8. RSVP/Response cards can be replaced with stamped postcards. Just put the guest's name/s with a line for them to check if they will be attending. This saves on possible long-distance phone calls when you have guests that forget to RSVP.
9. Notecards can replace thank you cards. Just write your message inside!
10. Consider printing your own invitations or using a copy shop.
